  1. BSGI’s role is to increase the awareness of the benefits of Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) through publications, national/international conferences, seminars and workshops.
  2. BSGI will play a leading role in promoting geo-spatial technology and standards.
  3. BSGI will support creation and maintenance of common data dictionary which will be accessible, used and maintained by data custodians.
  4. Initiate encourage and facilitate research using geo-spatial technology for development.e of GIS and RS.
  5. provide interdisciplinary opportunities and cooperation among members of the different disciplines to enhance and develop geo-spatial skills and knowledge.
  6. arrange scientific and technical meetings, symposia and international conferences.
  7. publish journals, distribute books and periodicals and disseminate information related to geoinformatics.
  8. promote modern curriculum on GIS and RS by representing the user community in education forums.
  9. promote and assist establishment of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) in Bangladesh
  10. promote the development of a National fundamental data set.
  11. Support in developing a GIS and RS workforce in Bangladesh.
